Math during play!

Will- I made 3 chocolate chip cookies.

Mrs. Clark- How many more do you need to have 5 cookies.

Will- I have to make 2 more cookies.

Karter- This snowball is too heavy to move.

William- We need more people to help us move the snowball.

Anna- We made a pattern with the buttons.  It is an AABB pattern.

Mrs.Clark- How did you make the snowman?

Freya-First you put the biggest ball on the bottom.  Second you put a smaller ball in the middle. Third you put the snowball on top. (Ordinal numbers, position words, procedural writing).

Nathan- The snowman is taller than all of us.

Raena- Our snowman is shorter than Anna's snowman.

Nolan- I cannot move the snowball. It is too heavy. I need more people to help me. 

Braeden- There are 7 kids helping. We moved the ball.  It is heavy.

Grace- We made a chair. The snowballs are the same size.

Snowflake the Elf and Making Inferences.

Anna- I think she is up on a high shelf so no one will touch her.  She will lose her magical powers if we touch her. 

Chad-I think she is pretending she is a princess. She is playing in the castle.

Freya-I think she is riding a school bus to get back to school after she has been to the North Pole.

Nemma-I think Snowflake is mixing cookie dough and making cookies for Santa

Owen- I think she was climbing up the coconut tree.  She is finding the letters on the tree.

Recount Of Our Trip Downtown

Last week we walked downtown to go shopping. It was a long walk.  First we went to Manticore Books.

We looked at books.  We bought "Henry's Imagination" and "If You Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School DON't."

Next we went to Jack and Maddy's. 

There were so many toys to look at.

We liked the Lego, playmobil, science experiments and dolls the best. Then we went to Mariposa Market.

We bought sugar cookies.  We had to get back to school quickly because the bell was going to ring for lunch.

After yoga, we got to eat our cookies. We had so much fun! 

A Birthday Party for Bear! A Phonemic Awareness Activity!

We went to bear's birthday party in the park. We read a story and sang Happy Birthday to bear.

Then we pulled out letters from a hat and thought of items that would be at a birthday party that started with that letter.

Next we went on a scavenger hunt!

Looking for clues!

Last week we had a visit from Blue. He left us some clues................

The first clue was

Ethan and Owen - it is a pumpkin cracker
William - it stains berries
Raena and Kaleb - makes cakes
Sophie - makes raspberries into juice
Ellie - pie maker
Aliah - a fruit holder
Brittan - making jelly
Nathan - to put cookies in

The second clue was:

Chad - a can of juice

William - bagels

Kaleb - makes bread

Ethan - cookies

Nemma chips that makes balls

Sohpie and Nathan - chips

The third clue was:

We all knew this was butter.

We used these clues to figure out what we would be doing. Our thoughts were:

Kylee and Braeden - soup

Mia and Anna - bread

Nemma and Owen - gingerbread house

Cooper - pumpkin pie

Ethan - pumpkin bread

We were making Monkey Bread to share with our friends next door who were making pizza bread to share with us!

First we mixed sugar and cinnamon and rolled pieces of country biscuit in the sugar mix. 

Next we put the balls into the pan and poured a mixture of melted butter and brown sugar on top. Most of us thought it wouldn't be very good to eat.........

After it came out of the oven we took it next door and shared it with our friends who had made pizza bread.   It was very good.
