Hanukkah Fun!

We learned about Hanukkah from Chad's family. We learned the following:
-You get a present every night for 8 nights.
-Hanukkah is called the Festival of Lights.
-Each night you light a candle on the menorah.

- Every night they say a special blessing and have a special supper.  They also do a special activity like watching a movie, listening to music (Macabeats).
-They also learn about the way we should all live: helping others, being kind, and loving.
-We played the Dreidel game.

Chad's mom made latke's for us.  They were so yummy.

Owen and Freya made a procedure for making latke's.

Eating Food from Bangladesh

Ayana's family made Bangladesh food for us.

We ate rice with chicken and pakora. Pakora is made with vegetables and spinach.  We ate food from all the food groups except for dairy. The rice dish had yummy turmeric spice in it.  It is fun to try new foods.

Ayaan's aunt showed us her beautiful sari.

We took a survey with tallies to see which food we liked the best. This is what we found out.

Mrs. Clark- Why do you think most boys and girls liked the rice the best?
Ethan- It had the most flavour.
Grace- There was chicken in the rice.
Mrs. Clark- Why is the information from our survey important?
Anna- If Ayaan's aunt made food again, she would make more rice.

At play time, some of the students made a bar graph to show the data.

Math during play!

Will- I made 3 chocolate chip cookies.
Mrs. Clark- How many more do you need to have 5 cookies.
Will- I have to make 2 more cookies.

Karter- This snowball is too heavy to move.
William- We need more people to help us move the snowball.
Anna- We made a pattern with the buttons.  It is an AABB pattern.
Mrs.Clark- How did you make the snowman?
Freya-First you put the biggest ball on the bottom.  Second you put a smaller ball in the middle. Third you put the snowball on top. (Ordinal numbers, position words, procedural writing).
Nathan- The snowman is taller than all of us.

Raena- Our snowman is shorter than Anna's snowman.

Nolan- I cannot move the snowball. It is too heavy. I need more people to help me.
Braeden- There are 7 kids helping. We moved the ball.  It is heavy.
Grace- We made a chair. The snowballs are the same size.
